Up In the Air: Anatomy of New Security Checkpoints
Nov 6, 2018 - 02:59PM EST
Construction of two massive buildings that will be home to new security screening checkpoints serving 48 airline gates has transitioned to a significant new phase. Several months of preparatory work to evaluate site conditions, refine design specifications and carefully remove physical obstacles laid the groundwork for production of foundations and columns to move forward.
Passengers looking out the window from Terminal C at Reagan National may notice a manmade twelve foot high grass-covered hill next to the airfield. The hill is a critical component that will enable the operation of a new 14-gate concourse to replace Gate 35X, as part of “Project Journey.”
Road widening and sidewalk modifications will provide more options to route traffic through congested airport roadways as construction activity increases at Reagan National.
