The Washington, DC Metrorail system has an elevated Metrorail station connected to the concourse level of Terminal 2 Reagan National Airport. The Metrorail system provides easy and affordable access to locations throughout Washington, Virginia, and Maryland.

- Due to construction, Metrorail service between the airport and Washington, D.C., will be affected by weekend closures of the Crystal City station (north of DCA). Allow extra time to ride free shuttle buses to/from the next open rail station. The weekends noted in bold will also replace rail service to/from Alexandria (south of DCA) with free shuttle buses.
- Weekend closure dates: Feb 14-16, Feb 21-22, Feb 28-Mar 1, Mar 7-8, May 9-10, May 16-17, May 30-31, June 6-7, June 13-14, June 19-21.
- Shuttles will operate every 8-10 minutes, adding to expected transit travel time. Follow signs from the rail station to meet buses.
Getting to the Metrorail station from the Terminals:
- Terminal 2: Use either of two enclosed pedestrian bridges on the concourse level which connect directly to the station.
- Terminal 1: Exit the terminal to the street-side curb, and board any “Airport Shuttle” bus. At the stops for Terminal 2 or North/South Parking 1 & 2, you can access an enclosed bridge which connects to the Metrorail station.
Getting to the Terminals from the Metrorail station:
- Terminal 2: Go to the north end of the train platform and exit the station. A pedestrian bridge connects directly to the Terminal’s Concourse level.
- Terminal 2: Go to the south end of the train platform and exit the station. A pedestrian bridge connects directly to the Terminal’s Concourse level.
- Terminal 1: Go to either end of the train platform and exit the station towards the parking garage. Take the elevator or stairway to the street level below and board any "Airport Shuttle" bus.
- Elevator access: The elevator is located at the center of the train platform. There is a sloped sidewalk at ground level which connects to both pedestrian bridges (follow signs).
Metrorail Fares and Farecards
- Metrorail SmarTrip farecards may be purchased at machines located at all entrances to the Airport Metrorail station. The station is also fully accessible via elevators.
- Metrorail single rides can be paid for by tapping any credit, debit, or mobile wallet card on the entrance and exit faregates at stations. For unlimited 1, 3, or 7-day passes, visitors will need to use a fare machine to get a SmarTrip card.
- Metrorail fares vary by distance and time of day. Fares during the day range from $2.25 to $6.75. After 9:30 p.m. and on weekends, fares range from $2.25 to $2.50. You can calculate your fare between two stops using Metro's Trip Planner. Bus fare is $2.25.
- The station is also fully accessible via elevators.
